The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs will face each other for just the fourth time since 2015 in Super Bowl 58.
Two of those meetings, including the one next Sunday in Las Vegas, are Super Bowl matchups.
Kansas City triumphed in the last Super Bowl meeting in 2020 to mark the start of Patrick Mahomes' championship-winning era.
The Chiefs have been back to the Big Game on two other occasions, while the 49ers are back for the first time since their loss to Kansas City in Miami.
San Francisco has not defeated the Chiefs in any head-to-head meeting in a decade, and a win in Las Vegas would not only be sweet because it dethroned the Chiefs, but because it would reward the 49ers with a long-awaited title under Kyle Shanahan.

Kansas City leads the all-time series with San Francisco by an 8-7 margin.
The Chiefs moved ahead in the all-time series with a regular-season victory in 2022.
Kansas City won that Week 7 battle 44-23 behind 423 passing yards from Mahomes.
Travis Kelce had 98 receiving yards in that Week 7 battle and he was the third-leading receiver on the Kansas City roster. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling each had 100-yard days for the Chiefs.
Mahomes threw for 286 yards in Super Bowl 54, which was also a double-digit triumph in favor of the Chiefs.
Kansas City won that contest 31-20 behind three fourth-quarter touchdowns.
The 49ers held a 20-10 advantage in Super Bowl 54 after three quarters, but they fell apart as they failed to contain Mahomes in the final stanza.
San Francisco's last win over Kansas City came in 2014 long before any of the current stars of each team were on their respective rosters.

Kansas City 27, San Francisco 21
Kansas City thrived as an underdog in the last two rounds of the postseason against the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills.
The Chiefs find themselves in the same role for Super Bowl 58 and it is hard to pick against Mahomes and Co.
Kansas City has three Super Bowls worth of experience compared to one from San Francisco and most of the 49ers core will participate in their first Super Bowls.
Kyle Shanahan's track record in the Big Game isn't convincing either. The 49ers blew a 10-point lead against the Chiefs and he was the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons in their collapse against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 51.
Andy Reid has a more consistent coaching record in recent Super Bowls and he has the best quarterback in the NFL on his side.
A steady performance, led by Mahomes, could lead the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl win in five years.
