How to level fast in Starfield

Here are the 5 fastest ways to level up in Starfield:

  1. Lower difficulty level to Very Easy
  2. Get the Well Rested / Emotional Security Bonus
  3. Eat and Drink Food
  4. Farm XP on Abundant Fauna Planets
  5. Use Console Commands

Combining the methods above lets you level up your character very quickly! For instance, you will always have a +19% XP gain bonus while completing missions and killing enemies. While this may not seem like a lot, it adds up quicker than you think!

Lower Difficulty Level

Lowering the difficulty level will change the amount of damage you deal and the amount of damage you deal by enemies. In addition, it changes the chances of seeing specific rarity types. However, if your entire goal is to level up quickly, you should lower the difficulty level to Very Easy so you can easily and quickly kill many enemies. Once you gain the desired levels, you can farm Legendary items by changing your difficulty.

Eat and Drink Food

Drinking Tranquiltea will give you a 2% XP gain bonus for 15 minutes. In addition, eating Shepherd’s Pie will give you a 2% XP gain for 60 minutes. You can buy Tranquiltea Classic and Shepherd’s Pie at Kay’s Place in The Well district of New Atlantis.

Remember that the XP gain bonus from drinking tea will stack with the XP bonus from eating food, but not with each other. For instance, drinking five Tranquiltea Classic won’t stack the bonus, but drinking one Tranquiltea Classic and eating one Shepherd’s Pie will stack for a total bonus of 4% XP gain.

Get the Well Rested Bonus / Emotional Security Bonus

Every time you sleep in a bed for at least an hour, you will gain 10% extra XP for a short period. This XP bonus stacks with additional bonuses, meaning it is worth resting in a bed whenever the Well Rested bonus runs out.

You can further upgrade your Well Rested XP bonus by obtaining Emotional Security after marrying a companion and sleeping in a bed for 1 hour. You will instead gain 15% extra XP for a short period. These don’t stack with each other.

Farm XP on Abundant Fauna Planets

After gaining all of the XP boosts, you can head to planets with Abundant Fauna. Here, you can kill many of the creatures found on these planets for fast XP.

Here are the best planets to farm XP in Starfield:

  • Ixyll II: Level 40
  • Hyla II: Level 40
  • Gamma Vulpes 1: Level 50
  • Serpentis IV: Level 55

Complete Missions

You will earn a lot of experience for completing a mission, plus bonus XP from activities like killing enemies, completing the lockpicking minigame, and exploring. There are a ton of main story missions plus mission boards to keep you busy. Even better, your XP bonuses are affected by the XP earned for completing missions.

Use Console Commands

If all else fails and you want to level your character, you can use console commands to add as many levels as you want quickly. However, remember that using console commands will disable your ability to earn achievements. Luckily, there is a mod that allows you to reenable achievements if you are playing on PC.

You can use console commands to gain levels by following these steps:

  1. Open the console by pressing the Tilde (~) Key
  2. Type in player.setlevel X
    1. X is the level you want your character to be
  3. Press Enter

As a test, I used the console command to add 12,000 levels to my character for fun. However, while you will gain the ability points from the levels you give yourself, you still need to complete a specific skill challenge to level that (or use additional console commands). Still, this is a quick and easy way to unlock all Level 1 skills so you can begin to complete their challenges as you play.
