There has been a lot of curiosity regarding the history of mankind, and food has been one of the important part in their growth. But, did you know there are certain recipes that have a rich history of their own? Here are some of the oldest-known recipes of the world.

Looking at the history, one can clearly say that this was a popular dish in the Middle East for at least several thousand years. There has been evidence that suggests that Lentils Soup was first made in the Neolithic period around 8,000 BC with lots of veggies, meat/poultry along with herbs & spices.

Nettle Pudding

Originating in 6000 BCE, England; it is the oldest dish of the world that’s rich in nutrients. Nettle pudding is made with stinging nettles (wild leafy plant), breadcrumbs, suet, onions, and other herbs and spices. This dish is steam cooked until it attains a mousse-like consistency.

Meat Pie

Considered a staple food in the medieval Europe, meat pie was traditionally made with a mixture of meat, vegetables, and spices. This dish was first was made in 1700 BCE and was a convenient way to preserve food and stretch out meager portions of meat.

Considered as one of the most popular & traditional Korean soups made with vegetables, beef with herbs & spices, and known fondly as the Hangover Stew. Apparently, it was first made around 900 CE, when it was consumed by soldiers and other people who engaged in heavy drinking.

Roast Boar

The exact origins of this dish are unknown, but its earliest recipe was featured in the Roman cookbook Apicius, which dates back to the 1st century AD. This recipe mentioned that the dish was roasted with vinegar, bay leaves and honey.

It’s a British porridge from the medieval era and was often considered a dessert, as it was made with milk, cracked wheat, honey, spices, and raisins. Originating in 1381, this historical dish is quite popular in France and England, and is made during the Christmas and New Year.
