ALDI’s Mama Cozzi’s Toasted Ravioli, a review! Is it as good as the restaurant version, and worth the buy?

My two teenage boys over here are always exceptionally excited when Mama Cozzi’s Toasted Ravioli reappears for the season. OK, well, yes: I’m a little excited too, because these are so good, you guys. I mean: Seasoned. Breaded. Toasted. Raviolis. With. Cheese? Yes, please.
College Guy is now home for the holidays, so happily helped test out this season’s batch this afternoon. Definitely a nice break from cafeteria food, right?
Note: These are seasonal in most areas of the country, while a few lucky locations get to enjoy them year-round.
Mama Cozzi’s Toasted Ravioli, a review
Look for Mama Cozzi’s toasted ravioli in the freezer section, where they come either in original beef or four cheese varieties — now up to $4.29 per 16 oz box (about 24 raviolis). This is much cheaper than at my local pizza place, where they run about $7.50 per small order.
While the pizza place appetizer does come with sauce, I’m pretty sure that doesn’t make up for the price differential… and yes, even though ALDI shows sauce on the box, this is just a “serving suggestion.” That’s OK, because it means that the whole 16 oz here is ravioli.
We highly prefer the 4 cheese variety of toasted ravioli, which contains ricotta, mozzarella, romano, and asiago cheeses. We only tried the beef once, then went straight back to the cheese — and, I’m pretty sure this isn’t just us, because there are generally very few boxes of Mama Cozzi’s toasted cheese ravioli left on the shelf!
Sometimes, you just need easy
ALDI Toasted Ravioli Baking Instructions: To prepare Mama Cozzi’s toasted ravioli, just place the frozen raviolis in a single layer on a baking sheet and pop them into the oven at 425 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Watch until they’re just puffed up (as shown above), which takes about 9 minutes in my own oven.
Boom! Perfectly toasted ravioli, with just the right ratio of crispy & chewy seasoned outside to creamy & cheesy filling. We like to eat these plain, but you could also warm up some ALDI marinara to dip yours in, if you prefer. (We’re a fan of Simply Reggano marinara, which runs $1.49 per 24 oz jar in this area.)
ALDI got the seasonings and texture just right on these toasted ravioli. They taste just like the ones the kids love from our local pizza place (or like the ones we enjoyed on our long-ago trip to St. Louis) — but, at a much more budget-friendly price.
How many boxes of Mama Cozzi’s toasted ravioli are you picking up?
I already have another box of these toasted raviolis in the freezer, earmarked for Thursday as part of our small family Thanksgiving appetizer spread. Traditional? Maybe not, but definitely teenage-boy-friendly.
I’ll also grab a couple more boxes here and there to enjoy down the road, since these are a seasonal Find at ALDI. I’m not sure what the “season” is — holidays? Winter? Regardless of the reason for toasted ravioli season, though, we’re glad it’s back. Grab a box (or more) for yourself before they again disappear from the ALDI shelves. They may or may not be a special buy in your region; check the shelf!
