Walking through The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios is magical. From the interactive Ollivanders Wand Shop to the immersive ride inside Hogwarts Castle, there's something unexpected around every corner. One experience every witch, wizard, and Muggle must have in the park is drinking a mug of Butterbeer. It would be one of the only places on earth to sip the butterscotch-spiked cream soda concoction, but no — we have a Butterbeer recipe that you'd believe came from Universal Studios' Butterbrewers themselves.
Trying the food at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is, of course, a key part of the experience. From classic British cuisine like fish and chips at the Three Broomsticks to unique elixirs and potions at Eternelle's Elixir of Refreshment, there are countless themed snacks to enjoy in Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley. The most sought-after option is the famed Butterbeer, a drink Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling mentions throughout the series.
Recreate the Famous Disney Dole Whip at Home With Just 3 Ingredients
There are a number of Butterbeer treats available in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, including Butterbeer fudge, Butterbeer ice cream, and a Butterbeer drink that can be served hot, cold, or frozen. The cold drink is perhaps the most popular iteration — sweet and soda-like, it's topped with a delightful foam that tastes like caramel and butterscotch.
Since the beverage was first introduced, people have tried to crack the recipe. And even though Universal Studios hasn't given up the official ingredients just yet, there are many copycat recipes that have made the rounds. Here's one that gets pretty close to the real thing (plus, it includes an easy hack to cut your work in half). Save this Butterbeer recipe to make it for your next Harry Potter movie night.
The Ultimate Butterbeer Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup cream soda
- 1 cup soda water
- 2 tablespoons butterscotch syrup
- 2 tablespoons whipped cream
- 2 tablespoons caramel syrup
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Pour the cream soda, soda water, and butterscotch syrup into a large mug or stein (if you're feeling spirited) and stir until totally blended.
- Mix the whipped cream, caramel syrup, and salt together in a bowl.
- Top your soda mixture with the flavored whipped cream.
- Sip while watching Harry Potter.
Pro tip: For an easy flavored cream hack, switch out the topping ingredients for a premade foam such as the Sweet Foam Coffee Topper from Reddi-wip. And, for an adult spin on this themed beverage, you can add a splash of rum.
