College football recruiting: Ranking 2025's top 25 classes (2024)

An early-summer look at college football's top programs in recruiting for the 2025 cycle.

Brad Crawford

College football's top 25 recruiting classes for the 2025 cycle are coming into focus this summer as teams try and add to their arsenal ahead of football season. Several of college football's elite programs who are hoping to land table-setters in the the 2025 recruiting cycle are hosting big-time recruits this weekend, including Texas, Georgia, Alabama and Michigan.

There's sure to be fluctuation through the summer months with the altered recruiting calendar that kicked off with official visits beginning May 31. The dead period begins after the last two recruiting weekends in June. Texas, for instance, has more than three-dozen prospects visiting Austin near the end of the month.

With the early signing period set for December, most of the nation's top players will be committed by then, other than a few who continue to weigh NIL deals and which programs best suit their skill sets. The Big Ten and SEC are expected to dominate near the top of the recruiting rankings once again, especially with notable expansion in both leagues.

Commits: 11

Quarterback Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 player in the 2025 recruiting cycle, is the torchbearer in this class for Brian Kelly and is responsible for being a lead recruiter for others. It didn't take much convincing from the Belleville, Mich. native to get four-star Louisiana native offensive lineman Devin Harper on a board a few weeks after his commitment. LSU also has a verbal from Harlem Berry, a four-star running back ranked as the top player in the state. Only three of LSU's current 11 commits are from out of state.

9. Rutgers Scarlet Knights (221.02)

College football recruiting: Ranking 2025's top 25 classes (8)

Commits: 23

This is setting up to be an all-time class for the Scarlet Knights, who have buy-in from nearly two-dozen commits already inside the top 10 as one of the Big Ten's best. Whatever Greg Schiano is selling, it's working and the belief Rutgers football is on the rise once again under his tutelage is something being mentioned among top talent in 2025. The Scarlet Knight hold a quartet of four-star commits including wide receiverMichael Thomas III and athleteTalibi Kaba, both New Jersey natives.

8. Auburn Tigers (222.1)

College football recruiting: Ranking 2025's top 25 classes (9)

Three of Alabama's top-10 players, right now, are committed to Hugh Freeze's program. Two others are committed to Alabama, one Ohio State and the four others are still undecided.

Commits: 13

With a Big Ten bump, Lincoln Riley and the Trojans have three five-star commitments this cycle and all are among the top six players from the state of Georgia — defensive linemen Justus Terry, Isaiah Gibson and quarterback Julian Lewis. College football recruiting: Ranking 2025's top 25 classes (14)

The Crimson Tide are currently creeping up on the No. 2 overall class with the top-rated group among SEC teams. With four players in the top 100, DeBoer's roster should be enhanced in a big way if this cycle continues going in an ultra-positive direction. They've got the No. 2 overall player in 2025 committed with quarterbackTavien St. Clair and have the top two cornerbacks in the country as verbal pledges —Devin Sanchez andNa'eem Offord.
