The recall: The recall involves 942,760 models of the Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers sold in the U.S. and Canada. The model number is SCCPPC600-V1; it’s shown on the label on the bottom. The multi-cookers were manufactured between July 1, 2017, and Oct. 1, 2018, with date codes K196JN through K365JN and L001JN through L273JN. (You’ll find the date code engraved on one of the prongs of the electrical plug and on the bottom of the base.)
The risk: The recalled Crock-Pot multi-cooker can pressurize when the lid is not fully locked. This can cause the lid to suddenly detach while the product is in use, posing burn risks to consumers from hot food and liquids ejecting from the cooker.
Incidents/injuries: Sunbeam Products has received 119 reports of lid detachment, resulting in 99 burn injuries ranging in severity from first-degree to third-degree burns.
Where and when sold: The multi-cookers were sold at Walmart, Target, and other retail stores nationwide and online at Amazon and other retailers from July 2017 through November 2020 for between $70 and $100.
The remedy: Consumers should stop using the Crock-Pot in pressure cooker mode but can continue to use it for slow cooking and sautéing. Consumers who continue using the multi-cooker in pressure cooker mode while waiting for the replacement lid should be certain the lid is securely turned to the fully locked position by aligning the arrow on the lid with the lock symbol on the base.
Contact information: To obtain a free replacement lid, consumers should contact Crock-Pot at 800-323-9519 or on Crock-Pot’s recall page for more information.
Report a defective product: Call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 or go to SaferProducts.gov.

The glaze – which may contain lead to facilitate the melting of glaze particles – fuses to the pottery when it is fired in a kiln, a special oven used to bake clay. When the pottery is fired at the proper temperature for the proper amount of time, essentially all the lead is bound into the glaze.
However, Crockpots generally have ceramic or porcelain pots, while most slow cookers have a metal pot. As with a lot of cooking appliances, the biggest difference comes from the distribution of heat.
