Ingredients

This banana pancake recipe for baby is made with just 5 nutritious ingredients:

  • Banana – That’s an obvious one! Use soft bananas that can be mashed. It’s a great way to use up bananas before they go bad.
  • Eggs – Use high-quality eggs for
  • Vanilla – Optional, but helps bring out the sweetness in the banana.
  • Oats – Use old-fashioned rolled oats, steel cut oats are great, but won’t work in these baby led weaning banana pancakes! If you’re worried that the oats have too much texture, you can pulse them in your blender until they resemble oat flour.
  • Butter – For cooking so you can really use any fat or oil – coconut oil or avocado oil would also work well! Olive oil could be used, but it might give a more savory flavor.
  • Optional – You can sprinkle some cinnamon into the batter if you like.

How to Make Banana Pancakes for Baby

These banana oatmeal pancakes are incredibly easy! Sometimes called 3 ingredient banana pancakes, this easy breakfast requires just a handful of ingredients, a quick mash, and a few minutes to cook. It’s the perfect meal to have kids help with too! (Specific ideas on what they can do below.) Let me break it down:

  • Mash the bananas and eggs together. This doesn’t need to be perfect, but mash any large chunks with the back of a forth.
  • Stir in vanilla and oats. Mix in the oats and vanilla extract until combined.
  • Cook the banana pancakes with oats. Heat a pat of butter in a nonstick pan or griddle over medium heat. Pour or dollop 1/3 cup of pancake batter onto skillet. Cook pancakes for about 3-4 minutes, flipping half way through, when you see bubbles. Cook until cooked through and golden brown.
  • Serve! These healthy banana pancakes are naturally sweet from the bananas, but we like to top them with a little butter, a drizzle of syrup (a must for my kids!), and a little crunch from seeds.

Toppings Ideas for Banana Oatmeal Pancakes

This healthy banana pancake recipe doesn’t need much in the form of toppings, but if toppings are your thing, then go all out! Here are a few ideas:

  • Greek yogurt – Plain or vanilla Greek yogurt will add some filling protein (If Greek yogurt is too tart for your baby, try regular whole milk plain yogurt.)
  • Fresh fruit – berries are my favorite, but sautéed apples or applesauce for dipping would also be delicious.
  • Sprinkles – add a nutrition boost in the form of hemp or chia seeds or chopped nuts like almonds or peanuts. (Obviously need to watch out for choking hazards for young kids.)
  • Classic pancakes toppings – butter and syrup is always delicious.

Storage Instructions

These homemade banana pancakes should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

How to reheat

Reheat pancakes in a hot skillet until warmed through on both sides or in the microwave. (Let cool if necessary!)

Can you freeze banana baby pancakes?

You can also freeze banana oatmeal pancakes in a freezer bag, I love using stasher bags for pancakes and waffles.

How to Serve Banana Pancakes for Baby (And to the Whole Family!)

I get it, feeding kids can be tough! But following the Division of Responsibility and knowing your job and your child’s job makes it SO much more enjoyable. You’ll be able to feed your kids any meal, which will help ensure that they are eating a variety of nutritious foods – with plenty of play food sprinkled in. 😉

Put out the pancakes, along with a few other items (fruit and milk perhaps?) and then let your child decide what to eat off their plate and how much to eat.
