Hello everyone. Your dedicated chiropractic and acupuncture team here in North Bergen are back with you today with another exciting and highly educational health tutorial. We love to educate and provide comprehensive chiropractic and acupuncture care and we do this in part by managing this chiropractic and acupuncture care blog. Today we present a tutorial video from our very own Board Certified Acupuncturist, Monika Gajiwala, L.Ac with you today to explain how people with persistent coughs have labeled their acupuncture treatment as a “miracle cure”. Whereas we’re flattered by that description, there is no miracle being worked here. In fact, Monika explains in her video below how acupuncture’s ability to relieve persistent cough is explainable via science.

For those of you who prefer to read vice watch videos, we’ve translated the video for you below.

Hello everyone, this is Monica. I’m at Life Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center. Today we’re going to talk about acupressure points and cough. Coughing is one of the body’s ways to eliminate excess. It can be a bit of food, allergens, dust, pollen, or even mucus. Cough can be created by viral or bacterial infection that creates the mucus in our body, and our body is trying to eliminate that mucus by coughing it up.

In this pandemic also there is a symptom of coughing, and today we’re going to show you how some acupressure points help alleviate this cough. Some of the causes for coughing are common cold, flu, post-nasal drip, allergies, asthma, lung issue, pneumonia, lung cancer, and many more. Today I’m going to show you a few points that you can use, yourself, and pressure it to reduce the cough.

The first point that we’re going to show you is called Ren 22 - you put your fingers on your throat, go down where you feel the dip, the point is right there. You can pressure in a circular motion for 20-30 seconds, 3-4 times. While you are doing this point, or pressuring this point, relax and take a deep breath. The next point is called Kidney 27 - you put one finger down and one finger out, so many people feel this point is very tender. Same thing, you press that point in circular motion for 20-30 seconds, 2-3 times to eliminate the cough. This point opens the chest and helps you for shortness of breath and immunity, to build immunity.

The next point is you go outward direction for 1, 2, 3, and 4. This point is Lung 1 - this also eliminates the cough and helps you with the emotional stress. The next point that we’re going to see is in the back of the neck. This point is where you feel your bone, it’s protruding, this bone, next to it, both sides is this point. It’s a very good point to open the chest, asthma, shortness of breath, and eliminate coughing. Same thing while you’re pressing this point, relax, calm, and take a deep breath.

Again, I’m going to show you the points one more time. The first point is right under the middle of the neck where you feel the dip - Ren 22. Another point, one finger down, one finger out - Kidney 27. Four fingers on the side, 1, 2, 3, and 4 - Lung 1. One last one, where you feel your bone is protruding, 1 finger out on both sides. These points can be used 2-3 times a day, 20-30 seconds, pressure that you can take, relax and breathe. Deep breathing is the key. Some of the home remedies for the coughing is washing your throat by using hot water, hot tea, green tea, herbal tea, and hot food. Try to avoid fried food, fatty food, alcohol, caffeine, dairy products.

Some of the other things you can do is warm water gargling. And last, the best medicine for the coughing and mucus is Asian Pear. Cut the Asian Pear in half, take the core out, put honey and cinnamon, and bake those Asian Pears. That is the best dessert for your cough and your mucus.

Thank you and see you next time. Again, if you suffer from persistent cough, contact and put yourself on track to rid yourself of that maddening ailment!
