When you create your character in Remnant 2, you have the option to select from one of four starting Archetypes. As you explore worlds and unravel mysteries, you'll unlock more Archetypes to choose from. These new Archetypes can then be selected for new characters, or you can select them as your new primary or secondary Archetype. It's an interesting system that offers a robust way to customize your character. The following guide covers a bit more about how it works.
Changing Your Archetype
After you've unlocked a total of 10 Trait Points, you'll have the option to select a secondary Archetype and to select a new primary one too. To do this, you must first acquire the Engram item for whichever Archetype you want to select. For a complete guide on where to find the Engrams, check out our guide on How to Unlock Every Starting Archetype.

After you've acquired an Engram item, you can select it in the "Archetype" section of your Character Menu. Select the slot near the top of the screen for the primary or secondary Archetype, and then select the Archetype you want to equip. That Archetype will become equipped, and all of the relevant Trait changes will occur automatically.
When you change Archetypes, you may end up with a few refunded Trait Points if you had points in the Archetype Traits you now have for free. Check that out and reinvest any extra points you may have.
Primary vs. Secondary Archetypes
When you select a primary Archetype, you gain all of the bonuses for that Archetype, including its Prime Perk. However, when you equip an Archetype into the secondary slot, you won't gain the Prime Perk bonus. This is an important consideration since some of the Prime Perks are especially powerful. Make sure to experiment with your primary and secondary Archetype choices to find the right mix for your play style.
