The McDonald's menu was given a mega shake-up this week as the chain introduced its summer holiday-themed Taste of Spain and Cyprus items. It is the second wave of the season following the "taste of Italy" selection, which hit UK restaurants on Wednesday, June 8.
This week, the chain's burger fanatics welcomed the new additions of The Spanish Stack and The Chicken Fiesta - as well as halloumi fries which has been cooking up a storm on social media. The new Spanish Fruit Punch drink is also packing quite the punch.
The fast-food chain also announced a price increase for the first in 14 years due to "incredibly challenging times". The staple item to my Mcdonald's order - the almighty cheeseburger - went up from 99p to £1.19 from Wednesday, July 27.
Burger bosses also revealed a number of other items would see an increase of 10p and 20p. But, we wanted to find out whether the halloumi fries deserved all the fuss and attention it is attracting.
The fries come in two portion sizes - four pieces (£2.49) or in a sharebox (£6.49). They are coated in a crispy light batter and served with a scrummy pot of tomato dip.
Are you a fan of the mozzarella dippers at McDonald's? Well if you are, be prepared to be converted, as this cheesy offering will win over your hearts.
They are perfectly salted and there is a generous amount of cheese. If you love dunking chips into sauce, you'll love the dip which compliments it so well, it's almost too good to be true.
The halloumi fries are so moreish you swipe away any intruding hands wanting to pinch one. My recommendation is to buy the 'sharebox' and just eat them all to yourself (it will be our secret don't worry).
They are incredibly moreish and dangerously addictive. I can see why they are causing a stir on social media. Other than the cheeseburger, this item is definitely my new Mcdonald's favourite item.
Anyone who is a bit squeamish when it comes to a texture however may want to stay clear as it gives a squeaky texture on the teeth like all halloumi.
I also tried one of the two new burgers: The Chicken Fiesta. A paprika bun is packed with a crispy chicken fillet, chorizo, chilli cheddar, spicy tomato sauce, red onion and lettuce.
However, I was a little disappointed by this as it was not fiery enough. The lettuce was a bit limp but this is standard for the fast food chain.
Of course, when you are buying a burger it is not about the healthy greens but about the meat. But, I can't help loving salad so I was a little disappointed with this.
The so-called 'Chicken Fiesta' did not pack the punch. Fiesta is meant to be a celebration or a carnival, so I'd expect a combination of flavours.
However, my taste buds did not tingle or feel that raving party its name oozes. The sauce needed a more spicy kick and the chicken fillet needed flavour. Initially, when trying out the item I thought it was delicious but as I got further in I realised it was slightly bland.
