IKEA explains why Daim bars have been axed from its stores (2024)

There are certain things we associate with a trip to IKEA and heading home with a bag of mini Daim bars is definitely one of them.

But sadly the tradition is no more after the product has now disappeared from the Swedish furniture giant's stores.

The company made the announcement last year, saying it would be phasing out products from Cadbury owner Mondelez and focusing on its own IKEA-branded confectionery.

But it's only recently that stock has begun to run dry, leaving shoppers wondering why they can no longer buy the favourite sweet treat.

Stands where the Daim would previously have been stocked are now filled with bags of Dumle - soft chewy toffees coated in smooth chocolate.

The red and blue packets, costing £3.50 for 270g, are strikingly similar to Daim, but once open, they don't look or taste like the crunchy almond caramel treats, which may disappoint some shoppers.

It's good news for fans of the Daim cake though, which is sold both in the IKEA cafe and can be bought in the shop to take home, as that's here to stay.

IKEA told us its Daim and Marabou products have 'been phased out since September 2023 and won’t be replaced once current stocks run out'.

A spokesperson said: “IKEA has for some years been focusing on IKEA-branded confectionery products and further developed its own chocolate and candy products. Daim cake is not part of the Mondelez range and will stay on sale."

Of course it's not only IKEA that sold the Daim sweets and there are still places you can get your hands on them including Asda, Amazon, Iceland, Poundland and B&M.
