    Keto Pie Crust

Keto Taco Pie Recipe - Ketofocus (26)The flaky keto pie crust used in this recipe is made using my recipe for fathead dough. I have a detailed recipe on how to make keto fat head dough that you should read especially if this is your first time making fathead dough. I give helpful tip and tricks to make it easier.Fathead dough is primarily made from mozzarella cheese. It replaces the gluten in regular flour based dough. Melted mozzarella cheese is elastic and helps hold the dough together and allows it to stretch into different shapes. Melt the cheese either in the microwave or on the stove top using a non-stick skillet. The easiest & fastest way to make fathead dough and combine all the ingredients is to use a food processor. If you don’t have a food processor, you can use an electric mixer or your hands. When using your hands, you basically have to knead the ingredients together to form a dough ball. It will take longer but the end result is the same.To roll out the pie crust, it is best to place the dough in between two piece of parchment paper. This prevents the dough from sticking to the counter or the rolling pin. It will also make it easier to place the keto dough in the pie pan.

    Taco Pie Filling Options

    Keto Meal Prep Tips

This day and age, most of us lead crazy, busy lives. To stay consistent and successful on the keto diet, it’s important to have your meals planned out and prepped whenever possible. There are a couple of meal prepping tips you can implement to make this keto dinner come together faster so you can be enjoying your life and your family.Keto Taco Pie Recipe - Ketofocus (28)The biggest keto meal prep tip for making taco pie, is to always have a batch of premade fathead dough ready to use. When I make fathead dough, I will double or triple the recipe and store one or two portions for later. The dough can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or in the freezer in a freezer safe bag for 3 months. Having pre-made keto dough prepped and ready in the freezer or fridge will save you about 5-10 minutes of time. It will also be less dishes that you need to clean up after dinner!Another tip is to wash and cut all your vegetables ahead of time. It doesn’t take very long to quickly chop up lettuce or dice a tomato. Sometimes I find myself omitting the vegetables or garnishes when I am cooking because I don’t want to put in the effort if I am tired. Or sometimes I don’t want to have to mess with extra dishes. Having the veggies cleans, chopped and prepped ahead of time gives you no excuses not to use them.Keto Taco Pie Recipe - Ketofocus (29)Another meal prep tip is to cook your ground beef ahead of time. Sunday is usually my meal prep day. For this keto taco pie recipe, you can make up the ground beef mixture on meal prep day and store it in an air tight container in the refrigerator until ready to use. When you go to assemble your pie, you don’t need to reheat the ground beef. The beef will heat up in the oven while you bake the taco pie.You can also assemble your taco pie the night before or morning of that you want to serve it. Follow all the instruction above for assembly. Rather than bake the pie a second time, wrap it in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator. This recipe is ideal for nights when you have leftover beef – either steak, roast or you could even use ground beef. Using leftover proteins is a huge time saver since you don’t need to spend time cooking up meat for dinner.
