Why is Airbnb not accepting my payment method? ›

This can happen for a number of different reasons, from an expired credit card to fraud prevention. Check with your bank or financial institution for details.

You'll find a payment plan option at checkout if your reservation meets the following criteria: You're paying with a credit card, debit card, bank account (conditions apply), PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Airbnb credits.

Your payment method will be charged as soon as your reservation is confirmed (excluding security deposits). This applies for Instant Book, too. No matter how far in advance you book, the Host doesn't receive payment until 24 hours after your scheduled check-in.

If you don't see the option to use Klarna when making a booking, it means there's no Klarna option available for this trip at the time of booking, or Klarna is not available in your country. Key factors in determining payment plan availability are reservation value and how close the booking time is to the trip.

It's important to double-check the info you've entered, making sure to add the details exactly as they appear on your card or bank statement. If you're still having trouble, contact your bank or financial institution or try using a different payment method.

It's possible that your payment method has a maximum transaction amount or daily limit set by your bank or financial institution. If the payment amount exceeds this limit, your payment won't go through. In these cases, you'll receive any of the following errors: Let's try again.

Airbnb / Customer service

Unless you have Airbnb credits or a coupon to use, you can't split the total cost of your Airbnb stay or experience across multiple payment methods. Meaning, you can't pay using two different credit cards. For some reservations, you may have the option to choose a payment plan.

1.5 If Airbnb Payments is unable to collect your payment, Airbnb Payments will notify you of such declined payment, and require you to complete the payment using an alternative Payment Method within 72 hours of the notice. If you fail to complete the payment, you authorize Airbnb to cancel the booking on your behalf.

If you don't submit a timely payment or appeal, or your appeal is unsuccessful, your payment method will be charged. (This doesn't apply to stays in China, Japan, or India.) You'll never be charged without advance notice or a chance to appeal before and after you've been charged.

No. All reservations require at least 1 night's deposit. On Airbnb you can use Affirm to pay on some which will allow you to stretch the payment over several months.

Common reasons Klarna payments get refused

The amount is too high. Klarna is taking a calculated risk and their risk appetite decreases when the amount of the payment increases. The billing address or contact details aren't correct. Klarna isn't accepted in that shopper country/region.

To be eligible for Klarna, you'll need to be at least 18 years old, be a U.S. resident, provide a valid payment method and be able to receive verification codes to your phone via text. According to Klarna, each purchase is an individual approval decision, so you may be approved for one purchase but not another.

Sometimes, guests have special requests that go beyond what is offered in the listing, such as early check-in, late checkout, additional amenities, extra parking, or accommodation for more people than their place allows. If these requests can't be met by the Host, they might decline the request. Dates aren't available.

Users in some countries may not be able to add a payment method to their account. In this case, you'll need to add your payment details directly on the Checkout page. Find out more about what payment methods are accepted in certain countries.
