Pokémon Fusion is when two or more Pokémon are combined to create a new Pokémon with the attributes of both.

Fusion Basics[]

Any two Pokémon can be combined with each other to create a fusion. Fusions act as regular Pokémon and have their own movesets, stats and Pokédex entries. Fusions are used often among trainers and can be found uncommonly in the wild, appearing as fusions of wild Pokémon found in the area.

When Pokémon are fused, the resulting species cannot be fused further. A fusion Pokémon can be unfused to gain both of the base Pokémon back. Two Pokémon of the same species can be fused to create a self fusion, but the resulting fusion only gains an XP bonus and shares the same stats as the base species. There a select few late-game triple Fusions that combine notable and legendary Pokémon.

Head and Body[]

When two Pokémon fuse, one Pokémon becomes the head and the other becomes the body. This means a pair of Pokémon can be fused two different ways, which can change the looks, characteristics, and strengths of the fusion drastically. The head Pokémon determines the colour pallet, pattern, and cry.

Names and IDs[]

Fusion species have their own names. The first part of the name comes from the head, and the second part comes from the body. The Pokédex number of fusions are (head * 470) + body, where 470 is the current number of basic Pokémon in the Infinite Fusion Pokédex. Since the names can be the same between different fusions ('nidobat' can refer to 18 different Pokémon) and the Pokédex number may change, the community rarely uses these to identify Pokémon out of game.

The community often says "Head name/Body name" to refer to a species, and (Head number.Body number) to ID it.

Wild Fusion Stats[]

When facing a wild fusion Pokémon, The catch rate is the lowest catch rate between the two Pokémon, and the experience it gives is an average of the two base Pokémon species. The base happiness when caught is based on the body Pokémon.

Fusion Items[]

Pokémon Fusion (3) DNA Splicers
The basic fusing and unfusing item. It is consumed after use and can be purchased in any Pokémart for $300.

Pokémon Fusion (4) Super Splicers
An improved version of the DNA Splicers. It is consumed after use and can be purchased in any Pokémart for $1000 once you've obtained 4 badges.

Pokémon Fusion (5) Infinite Splicers
A regular DNA Splicer that can be used without being consumed. It is a key item and can be obtained by beating the robot in the Cinnabar laboratory.

Pokémon Fusion (6) DNA Reversers
An item that inverts an existing fusion. It can be purchased from any PokéMart for $300 after obtaining the first gym badge.

Fusing Pokémon[]

A fusion item can be used to fuse two Pokémon in your party or bank. When fusing, you are shown previews of the resulting fusions, where you decide which is the body and which is the head. If you have not seen the fusion before, the preview is a silhouette. Pokémon that have custom sprites will have a green tinted preview.

Items held by either Pokémon will be returned to the backpack when fusing.

Pokémon with a different original trainer, such as those obtained in a trade, will change their original trainer to the player after fusing. They will keep the player as their original trainer even when unfused.

Name, Nature, and Moves[]

You will be able to choose a name, nature, and set of moves based on what either Pokémon has at the time. The Move Reminder found on the top floor of Pokémon centers can teach moves from either original Pokémon.

Ability[]

You are able to choose between two abilities, with one choice coming from each Pokémon. A fused Pokémon has access to its body's first ability or its head's second ability. If a Pokémon currently has a hidden ability, that ability is shown instead. Other than hidden abilities, the current ability has no impact on fusion. You are able to get the body's second ability or the head's first ability by fusing the other way around, and using a DNA Reverser to change the fusion to the one you want.

Some evolutionary lines of Pokémon have their first and second abilities switched for balance or other reasons. (Tangled Feet makes more sense on a fusion with Pidgey's body than its head, for example)

Level[]

If using DNA Splicers, the following formula is used:
FusionLevel = ((HigherLevel * 2) + LowerLevel) / 3
where both HigherLevel and LowerLevel are the current levels of the two Pokémon.

If using super splicers, the highest level of the two Pokémon is used.

EVs and IVs[]

Fusion keeps the EVs of the body and discards the EVs of the head.

If using DNA splicers, an average of both Pokémon's IVs is used. If using super splicers, the higher IV in each stat is used.

Shiny Pokémon[]

There are different colors of shiny available based on if the head, body, or both were shiny.

Growth Rate[]

The growth rate of a fusion is the slowest of the head and body, checked in this order:

  1. Slow
  2. Erratic
  3. Fluctuating
  4. Parabolic (Medium Slow)
  5. Medium (Medium Fast)
  6. Fast

Prior to Version 6.0, the growth rate was always Medium.

Other[]

Many miscellaneous things are based on the body such as current health, status conditions, gender, marks, and the fusion's pokéball. The capture information is also from the body, however the method of capture is lost when fusing. It is not possible to breed a fusion at the daycare.

Species information[]

Stats[]

The base stats of a fused Pokémon are determined by the base stats of its head and body Pokémon. The formula is a weighted average with a bias towards the body Pokémon for physical stats (Atk, Def, Spd) and a bias towards the head Pokémon for special stats (HP, Sp.Atk, Sp.Def)

The exact formula is as follows:

ATK, DEF, SPD

Typing[]

Generally, the fused Pokémon will have its head's primary type and its body's secondary type. If the body's Pokémon doesn't have a secondary type, its primary type will be used instead.

If the head is already providing the element the body wants to provide, The body will provide its primary type instead. A Grimer/Oddish for example is Poison/Grass. Oddish normally provides Poison as a body, but Grimer already provides Poison; so to avoid redundancy, Oddish instead provides its primary type, Grass.

In versions prior to 6.0, some Pokémon have had their primary and secondary types swapped and would pass on the new typing to fusions. In version 6.0, only Magnemite, Magneton and Spiritomb have their types swapped.

In versions prior to 6.0, some Pokémon had a dominant type, which will always be used when fusing to avoid things like a non-fire Charizard. In the 6.0 version of the game, only the Normal/Flying always passing on the flying type remains true.

Unfusing Pokémon[]

Unfusing Pokémon requires a splicer or super splicer. In most cases, splicers act the same as super splicers, so it is recommended to use the cheaper option. When unfusing with a full party, you are given the option to send one of the resulting Pokémon to your PC.

Fused Pokémon without your Trainer ID, such as those obtained from Wonder Trade, can not be unfused until postgame.

Experience & Level[]

Levels are calculated based off the original experience of the Pokémon before being fused, plus the experience gained since being fused. Due to a bug, intermediate experience is only given to the head. with the body receiving no progress towards the next level.

If the Pokémon were fused before the player met them, then the levels of both will be 90% of the fusion's level if unfusing with a super splicer, 75% with a normal splicer, and 65% if it was obtained in a trade and a super splicer is not used. All levels are rounded down to whole numbers, and no intermediate experience is gained.

Shiny Pokémon[]

Only Pokémon that were shiny before fusing will remain shiny after unfusing. If the Pokémon were fused before the player met them and the fusion is shiny, then the game will randomly force one or the other to become shiny when unfusing.

Ability[]

The abilities that each Pokémon had before fusion will be restored, including hidden abilities.If the Pokémon were fused before the player met them, they will have a random non-hidden ability.

Other[]

The following information from the fusion is kept on the body, or on the head if the body is sent to the PC due to a full party:

  • current health and status effects
  • held item
  • nature and gender
  • EVs and IVs
  • history (marks, location where Pokémon was met, Pokéball type)
  • happiness

the other Pokémon is given a random nature, gender, and IVs, with stats such as EVs and happiness being reset.

Full Party Bugs[]

There are several bugs that result from sending Pokémon to the PC due to a full party.

  • When unfusing a Pokémon gives a species that has not been caught by the player before, it will not be added to the Pokédex if it is sent to the PC.

There are some bugs that can occur if specifically the body is sent:

  • no intermediate experience is given for both the head and the body.
  • The head determines if it is shiny based off the body, and the body is no longer shiny. This means you can transfer and lose shininess from your Pokémon.
  • the head will obtain the body's ability index (i.e. first, second, or hidden) and the body's ability will be randomized. This means you can unlock the head's hidden ability by locking the body's, or lose the hidden ability already present on the head.

Reversing Fusions[]

Reversing Fusions requires using a DNA reverser on a fused Pokémon. "reversing" means to swap the order of the Pokémon in the fusion, so The body becomes the head and the head becomes the body. This can change a lot about the fusion and how it can be used. Traded Pokémon can be reversed.

When reversing, the base stats and typing are changed to match the new fusion, but the ability that was selected does not change. This lets you get an ability on a fusion that would otherwise not allow it.

some Pokémon attributes and data such as gender, EVs, happiness, and catch area can be given to another Pokémon by fusing, reversing and unfusing.

Special Fusion Moves[]

Fusions come with special moves that can be learned at any of the two move experts available around gym seven and post-game, respectively, the Move Expert in Knot Island and the Legendary Move Expert in Boon Island, which is available post-game in the Sevii Islands after using dive to get past the boulder blocking the way to the rest of the islands.
