What are the pre operative instructions for plastic surgery? ›

Dress comfortably in loose-fitting clothes and slip-on shoes the morning of surgery. Do not wear any jewelry or bring valuables with you the morning of surgery. Tests Before Surgery

Common tests that your surgeon may ask you to have if you have not had them recently are: Blood tests such as a complete blood count (CBC) and kidney, liver, and blood sugar tests. Chest x-ray to check your lungs. Electrocardiogram (ECG) to check your heart.

This panel typically includes: A complete blood count (CBC) with differential/platelet count. A comprehensive metabolic panel. A pregnancy test.

At this time, a patient will be greeted by the surgeon's nurse who may perform a number of duties included but not limited to the following: Taking photos at different angles of the aesthetic areas receiving enhancement or reconstruction. Perform an EKG. Reviewing preoperative guidelines.

Preparing for Surgery

Stop drinking and eating for a certain period of time before the time of surgery. Bathe or clean, and possibly shave the area to be operated on. Undergo various blood tests, X-rays, electrocardiograms, or other procedures necessary for surgery.

Certain medications and supplements may need to be avoided before cosmetic surgery. Examples include blood thinners like aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and herbal supplements such as ginkgo biloba or garlic. These substances can increase the risk of bleeding during and after surgery.

Pre-operative assessment

This is an appointment with a nurse, either in person or as a video or telephone call. You'll be asked questions about your health, medical history and home circ*mstances. If the assessment involves a visit to the hospital, some tests may be carried out.

Your observations will be taken (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, respiratory rate, oxygen levels, height, weight and BMI). Your medical and anaesthetic history will be taken by a nurse.
