Shoppers say they 'won't buy Heinz again' after trying supermarket's 57p soup (2024)

Shoppers say they won't be buying Heinz tomato soup again after finding a new favourite for a fraction of the price.

With tins of the big brand up to around £1.70, even the most faithful of Heinz fans have been turning their backs on it.

One mum shared how she tried Aldi's 57p soup and says it was 'just as nice' as the Heinz one she has been eating all her life.

"Thank you to those who posted about Aldi's soup prices," said Karen Lawrence in a budget Facebook group.

"I only ever eat tomato soup by Heinz and [am] boycotting them because of insane amount [they're] charging! Tried today really liked it!"

The 58-year-old, who has two grown up children, told the Manchester Evening News that Aldi's Bramwells Cream of Tomato Soup is 'just as nice as Heinz' and she won't go back to buying the expensive brand.

"I won't buy Heinz now I know Aldi's are tasty and cheaper," she said. "I always used their mayonnaise, tomato sauce, salad cream, but the prices they are charging are criminal so I'm boycotting their products."

Hundreds of people responded to her post to say they agree and have also swapped to the budget retailer.

"I love Aldi tomato soup and their baked beans," said one. "I used to be a Heinz fan but no more."

"That's a total game changer for me," said another. "It's the same!! Can't believe how much money was wasted on Heinz!"

One shopper said that even her husband, who is quite particular about his soup, is a fan.

"My husband loves this as well," she said. "Tomato soup is his favourite and he loves this one - and he’s very picky."

Another said: "I tried Aldi tomato soup and was thrilled with it, just as good as Heinz, who I won’t buy."

It comes after we reported how shoppers have been swapping another Heinz product for Sainsbury's version.

Its 52p tins of beans and sausages have been getting rave reviews and after trying them out ourselves, we actually preferred them to the branded Beanz and Sausages, which now cost £2 a tin.

A spokesperson for Kraft Heinz said: "Like the rest of the food industry, we continue to face significantly increased production costs – whether it’s ingredients, energy, or packaging – and rising inflation. Our energy prices alone have increased by 609% since 2019.

“We’re absorbing costs wherever we can, however we've unfortunately had to increase our prices to retailers – a measure that continues to be a last resort.

“We understand the pressures consumers are currently facing. To help offset these, we’re working collaboratively with retailers to offer great value through regular promotions and promotional cycles across a range of our products. We’ve adapted our offer to consumers with different pack sizes, value ranges and lower price points. We are also continuing to look for efficiencies in our operations.

“We remain committed to giving our consumers great tasting and nutritious products without compromising on the quality they know and trust, and continuing to invest back into the more than 3,000 people we employ across the U.K.”
