Is the world count a credible source? ›

We do not produce any original information but rely on data from a large number of organizations, research institutions, news services etc. We aim to use data from respected and well known organizations. But we also use data from a large number of smaller organizations, blogs etc.

8.1 Billion (current)

The current world population is 8,124,919,773 as of Thursday, August 1, 2024 according to the most recent United Nations estimates elaborated by Worldometer. The term "World Population" refers to the human population (the total number of humans currently living) of the world.

What we do know is that if nothing else causes the end of the world, planet Earth will come to its end when the Sun dies in about 7.5 billion years. At that time the Sun is on course to swell into a huge red giant that will consume the inner planets, including Earth.

Most countries count their inhabitants every few years (e. g., 10 years). Estimations are made for those which haven't count recently. The numbers might be a little off for some countries, but it is very unlikely that the total global count is wrong by more than a few percentage points.
