It’s finally spring!!!

Or is it? Sure seems hard to tell with all the snow flying everywhere! I am for sure ready for warmer weather. In the spring I get super antsy for summer BBQs and co*cktails on the patio. Probably because I live in Wisconsin and summer is exactly four days long so you have to enjoy every single second of it.

Which is why I start my alcohol plans in March.

Top of your summer drinking list should be this Tropical Margarita Sangria! While I love a traditional sangria recipeas much as the next person, it’s great to do fun twists on classics! This recipe combines two of my favorites, an amazing margarita and sangria!

HOW DO I MAKE SANGRIA?

Traditionally sangria is made with a few simple ingredients:

  • wine
  • rum or brandy
  • sliced fruit
  • sugar or simple syrup

I like to make my sangria in a less traditional way. I opt to combine different liquors with the wine, and mix things up with other flavors like different juices and fruits, like in this Pina Colada Sangria or this Apple Pie Sangria!

HOW TO COMBINE MARGARITAS AND SANGRIA INTO ONE co*ckTAIL

  1. In this recipe I took the makings of a traditional margarita: tequila, triple sec, and lime juice.
  2. Then I added in some pineapple juice and tropical fruit to make a truly special and amazing sangria!
  3. Rim your glasses with some sugar and garnish with a pineapple chunk and a cherry to make for a perfect drink!
  4. If you are looking for a slightly sweeter drink, you could add in more simple syrup or make this with moscato!

CAN I MAKE THIS AHEAD?

Absolutely! As a rule sangria is usually made ahead of time so all the flavors can combine. Toss all of the ingredients together a few hours before serving and toss it in the refrigerator to chill. You could even make it the night before and let it refrigerate overnight.

If you don’t want your fruit to break down too much, just add the kiwi and strawberry right before serving.

IS THIS A STRONG co*ckTAIL?

This is a fairly strong co*cktail. You have three sources of alcohol in this one drink (wine, tequila, and triple sec). So it’s a pretty strong drink. If you wanted to take it down a notch you could add in more pineapple juice or even throw in some orange juice. I happy to think it is perfect as is, but if you taste it and it is too much for you, add in more juice or some Sprite/7 Up.

HOW MANY WILL THIS SERVE?

This makes eight great co*cktails. If you are making it for a larger crowd, double the ingredients and put it in a punch bowl! Note that you do not need to double the fruit.

When you say to use a sparkling white wine do you mean champagne? I don’t know what other varietal of white wine is “sparkling “??

There are some brands on the market that are sparkling white blends but aren’t champagnes. Otherwise you could just use a sweet white blend.

I used a sparkling white wine blend, but any white wine that you like on it’s own will be great.

Can I make this a couple days before and let it sit?

I wouldn’t personally make this more than one day in advance. Keep in mind, additionally, that the longer it sits, the less pretty the strawberries and kiwi will be in it.

Can I use fruits other than strawberries and kiwi? I’m allergic to both of them.
