Is Vortex mod Manager easy? ›

Can you still use Nexus Mod Manager? While Vortex has taken the limelight for the past few years, NMM is still available to download and install on Windows. You can access mods for the games in its portfolio, letting you make changes to many of your favorite old titles.

Vortex is more convenient when dealing with MOD conflicts or MOD coverage. In NMM, whenever you install a mod which is editing the same files as another mod, you will be presented with an override prompt upon installation.

As Vortex uses LOOT internally to sort plugins, there is no need for you to install LOOT. Vortex sorts your plugins based on LOOT and according to your own, custom rules (if specified). LOOT's functionality is therefore already implemented into Vortex.

Vortex will remain our primary, supported mod manager for the foreseeable future but we'll keep you updated on the progress of the Nexus Mods App through our site news and forums.

A lot of modders are leaving Nexus because of some of the frankly unethical decisions they've made. The nexus has made a rather invasive u-turn of late when they should only just publish. They even insulted their own long-term users in the process.

Bottom line: both are excellent mod managers that get the job done. Use whatever you are comfortable with. The main difference between Vortex and MO2 still stands: MO2 uses a virtual file system to manage the mod files. If you have multiple mods doing a change on a specific mesh, you can decide which has the priority.

The default location for the Mod Staging Folder is “C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\skyrimse\mods”. To change it, go to Settings > Mods and change the folder to an (empty) folder of your choice that is located on the same partition as the game.

Vortex comes with LOOT integrated into it and will automatically sort your load order in a sensible fashion to avoid conflicts and achieve a stable setup. That being said, with Vortex you are still able to define your own rules for both plugins as well as groups of plugins for more granular control of your load order.
