In the realm of the strangest vehicle mashups ever, this one has to be a top ten player. For starters, both of the cars are reasonably rare. Lincoln only made less than 20,000 cars total in 1947 so that means the big coupe was likely in the 5-7,000 production range and in 1989 Cadillac made only 3,296 Allante models. Both cars were oddballs in their own right. The big Lincoln was basically the same car that was being produced before WWII and was doomed to live a short life as the company worked up new models. The Cadillac Allante was a pretty bizarre situation in its own right with the bodies being flown back and forth from Italy to be assembled in Detroit. The car cost an astounding $57,000 bucks in 1989 and it never really caught on the way that GM wanted it to. Produced until 1993, it had a longer run than the Model H but it was still a lost sister in the GM lineup.

We have no idea if the builder of this combo was a big Lincoln fan or a big Cadillac fan but either way, the cars have been mated together in about as seamless a way as is humanly possible. While we may be flummoxed by the car itself we are not at all confused about the work that was done. The Cadillac was integrated nicely into the Lincoln, interior and all. The square headlights up front are kind of jarring and on a car virtually devoid of hard edges, their rectangular shape looks out of place for sure.

The car is powered by the HT4500 engine that the Allante had. Rated at 200hp, it will get the car down the road but I would not be expecting any drag strip wins or multi-gear burnouts out of this car for sure. The builder took extra pains to make sure that all the systems and components on the car were accessible to be serviced and maintained, which likely required a lot of creative thinking over the build time of this car.

If you could not see under the hood or in the windows, this car would strike a lot of people as a cool Lincoln with weird wheels and bad headlights. Once you get past that, there is an amazing level of workmanship involved. What do you think?

    Right idea – wrong chassis!

Use a proper V8 and modern suspension and this would be a really attractive prospect especially with chromed smoothies or painted steelies with baby moons and beauty rings…

Working at a Cadillac dealership through college, the Allante is one of the models I never understood (or liked). Seats are flat and uncomfortable; and this guy looks to have used them. Besides the Cimaron, I don’t think they could have chosen a worse platform. Hey at least they didn’t paint it Mary Kay Pink.

That thing is weird, those model Lincolns had a look that I never acquired a taste for and the Caddy swap makes it stranger.

Cool idea, bad execution. The whole thing just looks awkward in many undefinable ways. None of the Cadillac stuff really fits at all. The wheels not only look weird, they don’t even fit in the wheel wells properly. The dash and center console stand out like a sore thumb. Since you are going to all the work of swapping everything and taking pains to do it to the best of your ability, why not at least recover the dash, console, and steering wheel to match the rest of the car? Then there’s the headlights…

It seems like whoever did this went out of their way to make the Cadillac stuff stand out instead of blending the 2 worlds together. This just hits all the wrong notes.

Nopety nope nope! High quality? That’s dryer hose leading to the heater core! Front suspension is matched to the arches, and the damn dash is crooked! Full-on Colorado Kid territory!
