A Closer Look at Gastric Sleeve Surgery
(SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY)
Gastric sleeve (sleeve gastrectomy) surgery is a safe, effective, and popular type of restrictive weight loss surgery. Candidates for sleeve gastrectomy should have a body mass index (BMI) over 35 and should have tried other methods of weight loss including diet and exercise without much success. The surgery is performed laparoscopically through small incisions and it is less risky than traditional open surgery. After a gastric sleeve, patients stay at our hospital for one to two days. Sleeve gastrectomy requires a shorter, simpler surgery, which makes the recovery period much faster compared to other procedures.
