Despite the fervor around her reality series Vanderpump Rules, Lisa Vanderpump is closing down one of her many haunts. E! News reports that the reality television maven and restauranteur’s Pump Restaurant & Lounge in West Hollywood will be closing its doors for good on July 5 after nearly a decade.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that the lease at Pump Restaurant is expiring, and we will be closing its doors on July 5th after 10 years of beautiful evenings under our olive trees," Vanderpump told E! News.
Per TMZ, Pump’s 10-year lease had come to an end, and its landlords are seeking to raise the yearly rent to $1 million. The Vanderpump Rules matriarch told E! that she objected to their terms: “While we have loved our time operating Pump, to take on another 10-year lease with a huge increase in rent by the landlords, is not something we are ready to commit to. After successfully running 37+ establishments for many years, this type of rent is untenable.”
For what it’s worth, Pump’s landlord denied both TMZ and Vanderpump’s claims, telling Page Six that they are “not accurate.”
“We did not raise the rent and in fact have been nothing but supportive as they tried to catch up on lease obligations including forgiving some rent during COVID,” the landlord told the tabloid.
Pump opened down the street from Vanderpump’s SUR Restaurant—an acronym that stands for Sexy Unique Restaurant—in 2014. It quickly became a go-to shooting spot for The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and her spin-off series Vanderpump Rules, as well as a dining spot for Bravo-lebrities and Bravo fans alike. The restaurant also catered to non-Bravo-related clientele, with stars like Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and Jennifer Lawrence all dining at Pump once upon a time. In 2018, Vanderpump opened the bar Tom Tom with VR’s current personae non gratae Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval just a few doors down from Pump and SUR, making her the veritable queen of that block in WeHo.
Despite her domination of the block, Pump is her second establishment to close in that area in almost as many years, with her restaurant Villa Blanca closing in 2020 due to the pandemic. Still with SUR, Tom Tom, Vanderpumpà Paris at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and two other restaurants at Caesars Palace on the way, Vanderpump has her hands full with or without Pump. However, the restaurant’s closing may free up some time for Vanderpump to return to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, on which Vanderpump was a main cast member from 2010 to 2019. You must admit that the end of Lisa Rinna’s tenure on RHOBH mixed with a Vanderpump return would make for an absolutely delicious co*cktail.
