A Moo-ving history lesson
With how much we love the taste of Cow Tales®, some of you may be wondering: how did these creamy, caramel sticks come about?
It all began in 1984, when the Goetze family decided to add a new caramel confection to the lineup. Made from the same secret family recipe as Caramel Creams®, Cow Tales® were named to represent the opposite end of the cow, playing off the classic “Bulls-Eyes®” name that came more than 65 years prior.
Another frequent question we get is why did Goetze’s Candy Company choose to name these treats Cow Tales® rather than Cow Tails. Well, Goetze’s used "Tales” instead of "Tails” to hint at the whimsical and nostalgic children's bedtime stories, since this brand is a more youthful and light-hearted take on Caramel Creams®. The image of the cow jumping over the moon, on the early packaging, was a nod to the "Hey Diddle Diddle" nursery rhyme, emphasizing Goetze’s choice of “Tales” over “Tails”.
In addition, we did not want the name taken literally (since our caramel sticks can look very similar to beef sticks at a first glance). Even today, we have “Not made from real cow tails” in our Instagram profile to clear up any confusion.
And we can’t forget about everyone’s favorite mascot, Duke! Introduced in 2016, Duke the Cow brings joy with his cartoon features and goofy smile showcasing his adoration of Cow Tales®. Duke takes center stage on our Instagram page, sharing his favorite recipes, holiday traditions and current flavor favorites.
