Why did Girl Scouts change the name of Tagalongs? ›

However, this year the council has switched to ABC Smart Cookies. Little Brownie Bakers owns the trademarks for the names Samoas, Tagalongs, and Do-Si-Dos. Girls Scouts own the trademarks for Thin Mints, Trefoils, and Adventurefuls, which is why those names are the same.

The regional difference comes from the fact that all Girl Scout Cookies are made at two different bakeries. In some parts of the U.S., you may receive Tagalongs, while in others, you'll get Peanut Butter Patties. They have slightly different ingredients, but they're essentially the same delicious cookie.

That's why some of our cookies look the same but have two different names. Whether the package says Peanut Butter Patties® or Tagalongs®, or Samoas® or Caramel deLites®, the cookies are similarly delicious.”

These Aldi cookies feel, taste, and look just like real Tagalongs as well as Great Value's copycat Tagalongs. The packages from the two grocery chains are the same size and even roughly the same orangish-brown color. The contents are identical.

The upper layer is a soft peanut butter while the lower layer is a crunchy crust, and the entire cookie is covered in a soft chocolate coating. Peanut Butter Patties are a bit too rich in flavor for me but have an overall good taste.

You can tell the Tagalongs are going to have more peanut butter just by looking at them. The peanut butter patties have more cookie and more chocolate, but they skimped on the best part. And most importantly, look at the quality of the peanut butter. The Tagalong is creamy, thicker, and has a better overall texture.
